japanese name order is family-personal, as in chinese.
for example, kurosawa akira, where kurosawa is his family name, and akira is the personal.
usually, with inferiority complex, most japanese express their names as personal-family in english, like akira kurosawa, ryuichi sakamoto, etc.
but recently some tradition awakened japaneses began using the original order.
have someone get confused about this?
p.s. royal family has no family name, because they are so unique.
hirohito's full name is simply 'hirohito'.

recently i found in the paperback oxford dictionary, hirohito's full name is described as michinomiya hirohito. it's misleading.
because michinomiya is not his family name, just the title like lord kelvin is the title for william thomson. you may call william gates as his full name, not bill president; president is not his family name.
another similar example is murasaki shikibu. her personal name is murasaki and family name is fujiwara, and the shikibu is the job title in the palace like personnel dept., or so.
