It is said that after the Earth-Mysteron Detente Agreement of 1998, the British Department of Health and Social Security contracted out benefit fraud investigation to the Mysterons, who did the job for a couple of years. (remember the adverts? The archetypical benefit cheat is seen, relentlessly pursured to his illicit cash-in-hand job by sinister circles of light tracking him to earth in the darkness.)

Unfortunately objections were raised to working with a bunch of evil, soul-less, merciless alien autonoma who have no sympathy or fellow feeling with the human race. The British Government realised the Mysterons were right to make these objections about their fellow DHSS Fraud Investigators, but pointed out nobody else was pitilessly evil and small-minded enough to do the job.

At the same time, Cloudbase imploded under the stress of finding enough colour names for its expanded staff of special agents.

Captain Pink (Very Special Investigations) remembers:

"Ooh, what are you like, luvvie? Oh, I remember... Colonel White, butch old White, sitting there with the Dulux colour charts running out of names, DEMENTED, he was, pulling his riah out, too many new officers and not enough colours... I mean, your primary shades, Captain Scarlet and Lieutenant Blue and Staff-Sergeant Green, no problem, and then you get your secondary pigments like Commodore Purple and Group-Captain Magenta and Agent Orange - undercover, he was, your germ warfare - and even your tertiary hues.

"But that's only sixteen or so omis, when you get a staff of three hundred and twenty five, you're going to run into problems! Sooner or later you're christening people Second Luitenant White With a Hint Of Mint, or you're trying to work "Black" back into it wothout getting blatant - Corporal Charcoal or Ensign Panzer Grey, that sort of thing... doesn't work, darling"

And the expansion of the Angel Interceptor Fleet presented similar problems.

Air Chief Marshal Periphrasis in the Symphonic Works of Jean Sibelius (1870 - 1963) Angel explains.....

"Just call me Perry... well, we realised whe we expanded from a Squadron to a wing that there would be nomenclature problems. I mean, Harmony, Symphony, and so on, were jolly good when there were only three of us, but when you need a pool of thirty-six pilots plus reserves and groundcrew, it gets you searching the old musical dictionaries like you wouldn't believe! Isn't thast right, uncle?"

"Oh, absolutely" agreed Adjutant Descant in Welsh Choral Singing Angel. "And you wouldn't believe some thick gels who got it wrong and thought the sequence ran "Harmony, Symphony, Silvikrin, Head and Shoulders"

"Oh, Leading Aircraftswoman Heady. She's sweeping the hangars out, I believe"

"And then there's Predestination Flight. Destiny, Kismet, Fate, and Calvin Angels"
