Hi SoRB. Discovered this little gem whilst looking for links for a trade show entry. I wish I'd read it a while ago. Nobody ever trained me in sales, I learned from salesmen visiting me when I was a retailer and combined the lessons from the good ones with my knowledge of what the retailer wants.

I don't consciously think about my sales technique. I try to be genuinely interested in the customer and to know my product inside-out. I find the most important thing is knowing when *not* to sell. I deal with retailers and try to avoid selling them something they won't be able to sell on.

I must be doing something right. I recently e-mailed over 150 customers asking for a character reference and received over a hundred positive replies. Plus two that told me to go rot in hell. smiley - shrug.
