Unless you're in China - where it's all the other way round. Takes me ages to unlock my door when I get home in the evening.

I didn't realise that! I'll have to watch out if I ever go to China. 
Door keys can go different ways in the UK, my mum's is different to mine, so I always end up putting her dead lock on.

If I recall correctly, the 'thread' on gas cannisters goes different ways round, depending on what is in the cannister. This means that you need two sorts of valves - one for left handed threads, one for right handed. Hopefully, this will ensure that (for instance) you don't mix up oxygen and carbon dioxide.
