There's a museum at the Scott & White hospital a couple of blocks from where I live in Temple, Texas.
One of the nasty little devices in the museum is an electric cauterization tool that one of the founding doctors of the hospital, either Senor Scott or Monsieur White, had a hand in the development of. I believe it was advertised in all the trade magazines as an aid to "bloodless surgery".
