A Conversation for Why?

Too much opinion

I just felt this entry suffered from an excess of opinion. I mean, there's no insecurity in *my* mind because of the root-less nature of my mind. It's quite clear that the author believes that asking why? questions is pointless and harmful - while that's a legitimate opinion (and I have some sympathy with it), I think it's unbalanced to express solely that opinion without expressing the opposite viewpoint, which was certainly mentioned in the PR threads.

Ahh well.

Such is the nature of philosophy, I suppose smiley - smiley

It's provoking an interesting debate though, which is good to see.

smiley - shrug You can write balanced Entries on philosophy - it's just harder. The irritation is that many of the exact same points were bought up in the PR threads, but the sub-ed appears to have ignored them. How lazy is that?

Ahh. That'd explain it then... smiley - devil

Not lazy, the entry works well enough on its own without having to be rewritten by a sub. Should anyone feel like writing a companion to this debate, they are, as ever, free to do so. But entries do not have to be definitive, merely informative and (hopefully) interesting. Or just join in the conversations here smiley - smiley

Good entry there, Matt. smiley - cheers

Philosophy is only ever opinion! As such a major part of western thought, I think that philosophy deserves some coverage in the guide.

In this article though, only the conclusions are opinionated. I think that the bones of the entry are veridical. You might disagree, as is your right. But least that is only your opinion smiley - biggrin

True, but it's possible to present a range of opinions in an entry, and so achieve balance. See A761429 - Free Will versus Determinism for an example, maybe.

You're right: it's really just the conclusions that are opinionated, though it does have an undertone in places. That's still bad enough... smiley - tongueout

'veridical'? Does that mean it kills green things?
