Are you sure about the spelling of this slang verb. Within the hobby of aircraft spotting the verb "fudging" has the same meaning and is used nationwide to mean counting a sighting (or ticking it off)without due regard for certainty.
Let's hope some bus, bird and butterfly spotters complete this set of articles.

in the world of "railways" either "bashing" or TS ing (slang for trainspotting) it is actually FUDGING if you are cheating.
But since it's not a competition with anyont (although some seem to think it is) you are only cheating yourself
