So pubic hair is to avoid smoking after sex?
I saw this article about a hypothesis on lack of human furriness. What strikes me is the complete lack of evidence or ability to prove it anyway. At least they have labelled it a hypothesis:

Playing with fire and having body hair being any sort of distictive advantage/disdvatage, that would affect evolution minimally over the timescale, wouldn't it? peeps didn't learn how to cope with fire by just being scorched. Being naked, chilly or too hot,and vulnerable, hungry and stuff, reckon that's the way some of the crucial stuff was learnt

I find the idea that the advent of fire causing hair loss not very plausable. Fire was discovered long after the loss of body hair. As a graduate of Soton where I studied human evolution, it would seem that The Aquatic Ape Theory is the only logical explanation for the loss of body hair and the production of adipose tissue just under the skin, and lots of other adaptions. You may not agree with the theory but I recommend you read Elaine Morgan's book.
