A Conversation for The Beat Generation
Onset of pessimism

You say it was on the map at 1956, that is about the time that the Baby Boom split into two halves, not publicised for some time, and what I would call an optimistic and pessimistic division. It may also be true they were 'impractical and practical' sides to the split, with the first half being pumped with good feeling to rebuild the world after World War 2. This split lives on still, I find. Would you agree?
