A Conversation for Blackberries and Brambling
Long lazy late summer afternoons

It just reminds me of long lazy late summer afternoons out with a plastic lunchbox, down along the canal or out by the reservoirs. As a child eating as many as went into the box and coming home with a purple face
Still I think the best way of enjoying these is in a blackberry and apple crumble. Lovely

Sorry this isn't very seasonal (being on Front Page on 22nd December), maybe of some use now to antipodean bramble hunters , or at least remind those in currently colder climes of the warmer seasons pleasures

I know, I did wonder why it turned up now rather than earlier in the year (the late summer bank holiday weekend would have been perfect for this).
Doesn't change it from being a nice entry though. Well done

But then there's looking at that pic and feeling all summery inside
Although my own wild bramble gave me fruit right into October.
You forgot purple fingers as well, Phil
Oh and Pimms? Are blackberries responsible for the purple-coloured bird poop I am constantly scraping off my car roof and house windows?

No, I'd blame the birds for that
It could also be elderberries and blackcurrants the birds could be eating ... I suppose it could be the blackberries too

Yes, reminded me too of Summer.
There is a bountiful supply right near to my work, although I am not certain if it will be lost when the site is developed. And lunchboxes! That's what I used too!! After eating my lunch I would wander over and fill it with blackberries, then in the evening my partner would cook blackberry pies, we ate one for dessert and froze the rest. A good gift to take to a dinner party too.
I also spend several occassions on a site beside a main road where the brambles had taken over at the back of the verge. Very refreshing on a hot summer's day.
I liked the description of the pitfalls, but the rewards are so great I don't care about a few scratches!
I am suprised that more are not taken by birds. Any ideas why?
