Small world! I was up in Renvyle a month ago, so we stopped off in Kylemore abbey. We even have a free pass to go back there because we didn't get to see the gardens. We also visited Clifden, the national park in Letterfrack, and this interesting island that is joined at low tide to the mainland by a huge sand-bar (can't remember the name). Talk to you later!

Reminds me of the traditional Irish marriage proposal - "do you want to be buried with my people"? Romantic huh?

I don't know Carne - Is it Carna? Have you ever been over to the Aran Islands? There's an airstrip in Connemara (Rossaveel, I think) where you can fly there in a small 6-seater aircraft - seriously wild stuff! (I'm talking about *both* the flight over and the islands themselves).

smiley - smiley I found out the name of that (sort-of) island on the map - its called Omey Island. We chickened out of driving across the sand bar to the island itself to see your ancestors! Maybe the next time!

No, I am not a lecturer or anything like that - I work in IT and computers and stuff. I help students out with their final year projects in one of the local colleges. Keeps me young!

I had a rare chance to get out last Friday - the local has since been turned into one of these modern "concept" pubs - EUARRGH! When people say that the only Irish traditional pubs are outside Ireland they are serious! Amsterdam has some of the best Irish pubs that I know of - now isn't that a shame?

Hiya ,
i think it depends on how far your prepared to go for a drink, atmosphere, oldy world charm and culture etc smiley - smiley
amsterdams a bit far isnt it lol smiley - biggrin
i must admit i dont like the theme pubs, and i really hate it when new owners think they must change the pub name! smiley - grr it takes away from the character and history that has been within a community for too many years to mention!
did you enjoy your weekend? bank holiday over here, hope your well

smiley - smiley It was a bank holiday here too. I had a nice weekend - nothing too spectacular - a bit of gardening and a few walks on the coast. I got badly soaked on Saturday - outside looking at rocks in a force 8 gale - don't ask!
