A Conversation for James Doohan - Actor

Inventor of Klingon

Post 1

Many people suppose that the Klingon language, tlhIngan Hol, was invented by Marc Okrand, but it wasn't. Okrand was called in on the third film, which had lots of Klingon dialogue.

But there was Klingon spoken in the first movie, Star Trek: The Motionless Picture. Okrand took that as being "real" Klingon, and retrofitted his language to the sounds made by the actors in that movie.

And those actors were making sounds, saying words, that had been devised for them and in which they were coached by none other than James Doohan.
