... was a Ford Anglia with no synchromesh on first gear. Fortunately, that wasn't too much trouble as I usually only had to engage first when moving off from a dead stop. But going up Birdlip was a challenge and I finally had the whole double de-clutching thing down even though I learnt to drive on a fully synchromesh car.
Incidentally, I thought rally drivers would usually execute a racing change by slipping out of gear without using the clutch, spinning up/down and only then using the clutch before re-engaging the gears.
