Radio alarm clocks are often powered from the mains. A power cut switches them off completely and usually resets the time to a blinking 12:00. If this happens during the night one doesn't get any wake up alarm at all and this seldom goes down well with one's employer.

As for the buzzer/radio alarm, mine can do both independently! This also gets around the snooze problem, as I can set the radio for a good time to get up, and set the buzzer for the YOU HAVE TO GET UP RIGHT NOW OR YOU WILL BE LATE time. This means that I can snooze safe in the knowledge that I won't be able to snooze indefinitely without knowing when I really have to get up!

Oh I want one of those...

Mine has a battery in it, so that in the event of a power cut, it can run for about 24 hours... so the power-cut excuse doesn't work with my boss (who gave them to all of us after a trade show one time)

yeah, mine has the power-cut problem too - it's well annoying!

Another proglem I face is that I daren't risk switching the alarm off for the weekend in case I accidentally forget to put it back on again. So it goes off early in the morning on the weekends when I'm usually not hear, waking everyone else up with my radio! (and it stays on for two hours!)

I'm sorry...

The room isn't locked, but usually no-one can be bothered to go in there and turn it off, so they just have to lie there listening to the muffled tones of BBC London for a while...

My brother did come in and switch it off though, but rather than pressing 'alarm off', he switched the mode to 'off', and so I ended up over an hour later getting up on the Monday morning! So they got their revenge...
