A Conversation for Advice on Coming Out

Stupid questions that are asked when you have just come out

Post 1

Researcher jaw25yo

When coming out I found that most of my friends asked really silly questions, to name but a few;

1) When did you turn gay?
2) Do you fancy me then? (said by same sex straight friends of course!)
3) How did you find out you turned gay?
4) Are you sure it's just a phase?
5) Are you sure you are gay?
6) (if someone hasn't been in touch for a while) Are you still gay then?

My replies have been;

1) One day I woke up and thought, Oooo, I think I'll be gay today, just for a change, I liked it and stayed that way.
2) NO! (this then gets the awnser, 'What wrong with me then?'
3) I woke up next to a man and asked him, I noqw assume I might be.
4) Are you sure your hetrosexuality is just a phase?
5) I'm not sure if I am but my boyfriend definatly is.
6) No I changed my mind, today I'm a pregnent woman.

Any more silly questions when you came out?

In a similar vein... http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/F80948?thread=166777&skip=0&show=20 The silliest thing anyone said when I came out was "No, you're not" But my favourite answers to some of those questions are: 5) Hang on, I'll just go and check... 6) Yes, the antibiotics just didn't work. The phrase "As long as it isn't me" Is also very old now...

Some people have said to me,

'Your doctor can give you something for that'

My awnser to that is,

'Oh really, what's he gonna do? give me a persciption and say, take 2 of these 3 times a day and you'll be stright'

Someone gave me the answer, 'yeah, somit like that'

Oh, well one born every minute.........

Do you know what really gets me? Why is that we have to justify ourselves and go through the "coming out", straight people don't have to go through this,it is just assumed. Does anyone else feel the same?

I came out over a year ago now, but is still bugs me, as anyone new you meet automatically assumes your straight.

Making the best of a bad situation, I usually try and let them know their mistake in the most amusing way possible. The best one recently was when a bloke who I'd known for several weeks said "you're potentially gay". Oh the fun... Also, from a different person "I saw Neil dancing the other night - if I didn't know better, I'd swear he was gay!" What made her think she knew better?

1 -Ouch! I magine the a*** s**! (from a girl with a fetish for same)
2 -Oh, so the gay ferrets in your schoolbag ment something more then...(Don't even ask...)
3 -So does this increase your chances of getting laid, or just divide them by a ratio....
4 -(on the phone) Um.....d'you wanna come over? (I did, my friend, who insits he's straight, promptly got naked for me!)
5 -(most common) oh, really? (and then promptly change the subject)
6 -(also common) Ignored.

Jealous at number 4! I bet he wasn't even drunk! Some people have all the luck...

Number 2 - I'm sorry, I will have to ask. If it's bizarre and a little surreal... I prefer it that way.

Yeah, number 4 was pretty weird. I'm actually not that keen on the guy in question, in a platonic, let alone sexual sense. But everyone needs carnal gymnastics sometimes, so I was obliging........ He liked it and was horrifyed at himself at the same time. I smell denial!

Number 2 -I have a pair of small plushies in a pocket in my schoolbag, a ferret and a raccon. (I'm a 'furry person' with a ferret fursona) The're called Algernon and Andre, repectivly. They have little clothes and sparkliy earrings in their right ears. They sit there all day with their little paws wrapped around each other. (*sigh*, I envy them so...) They're sort of mascots, everyone in the school knows about them, even the teachers. I use them to test people's reaction to homosexuality, but my friends are surprised to find out why.

Although I've got waay less stupid responses than I expected. I'm a vegitarian, and I get much dumber responses when people find that out. Such as "Say I got a chicken, and said ;'Eat this chicken or I'll kill another chicken'.....", "But an animal would eat you the first chance it got!" "But animals are tasty" and so on. When people just ask "why", I give a the same answer I give when asked why I'm bisexual: "I just thought about it for too long"

I'm vegetarian too! And teetotal. I could conceivably spend the rest of my life trying to explain myself to people, but I shan't.

I'd never heard the phrase 'carnal gymnastics' before. I shall endeavour to use it in a sentence this week. I love euphemisms. smiley - smiley Still think it's not fair - sexual favours should be shared out equally!

I know! It's really, really annoying. I'm always so *unsatisfyed*. But that's my 'friend's problem; he's afraid of his own sexuality. For some reason pleasured by me dosn't worry him but returning the favor does. Hmmf.

Wow, Vegitarian and teetotal, that's impressive. I tried to give up drinking in about november, after I went to a party and got alcohol poisoning. (I later found out it was due to somebody spiking my beer with neat vodka) I hardly ever drink but I still like to have a few beers at parties. I don't smoke or do drugs, but I'm a ferret of vice nonetheless!

Oh, by the way, I got the phrase "carnal gymnastics" from a comic called "Associated Student Bodies". I've got the hardcover 'yearbook' on order, whee!

Student bodies? Sounds a bit RUDE!

Vice eh? I prefer to refer to it as sin, but whatever turns you on. I also don't do drugs, preferring sexual deviancy on the grounds that unnatural acts are only natural.

I quoth cupid stunt: " unnatural acts are only natural"

What th' semg doest thou mean?

Um.....ASB is a bit rude but for a furry comic it's not much. Virtially all furries are gay or bi. (ASB is about gay colledge students.)

Well, I only meant that the sins of the flesh are bound to be commited. Chance would be a fine thing anyway... I'm not a minger...

To what extent are you a furry, if you don't mind my asking, not exactly clear on all the relevant terminology...

The word "furry" can mean either an anthromorphic animal character, usually with more adult characteristics than a saturday-morning cartoon character. The cast of ASB are a perfect example; there's a link here:
http://www.arclight.net/asb/

And then there are furry fans. A furry fan is just anyone who likes these furry characters, really. And a fan who is actually called a furry him/herself, well, that usually just means a more devoted fan, generally, one who has their own furry persona, or "fursona". I'm one of the latter, My fursona is a black-footed-ferret. I just envision myself as a ferret in a not-very-serious way. My fursona is just me with fur, it even looks just like human-me.

Furries tend to have more in common than just a love of anthromorphisim, hence the strong subculture among us. We're usually geeky, or outsiders to popular society, intelligent, young, and often extremly gregarious; furries are well knowen for hugging complete strangers as a greeting. (other furry strangers of course)

We like to draw, write stories, songs, play games, read fiction, etc, that feature furries. Some of us like dressing up in furry costumes called fursuits. Fursuiters are a lot like drag queens in many ways, entertainers.
