There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

That was a fascinating read Mina smiley - hug When I was a very young Gosho, our family used to visit friends in Sussex, and I recall travelling through the Blackwall tunnel when there was only one of them, and it was two-way smiley - yikes When the Dartford tunnel opened, we started taking that route instead, and I well remember looking down down at the... what are they - quarries? Ore processing plants? Those heavy industry thingies which may well be no longer on the left as you head south into the tunnel. It's amazing what memories an h2g2 entry can stir up smiley - bigeyes

Thanks very much. smiley - smiley It makes it worthwhile writing entries that won't have such wide appeal if at least one person appreciates it. smiley - cheers

I don't get a chance to look at the 'scenery' these days, as I'm usually driving, but I do remember wondering what it all was when I was a child. I only remember two tunnels though. (Still a youngster.) That's why I had to nag my dad for some details. smiley - smiley

I didn't realise you were a local chap, (were being the word) I don't live far from Romford.

I don't like to say online, but close enough to have to travel through Romford to get to London. smiley - smiley

Ok, if you were heading back home and travelling through Romford, would you go straight on at Gallows corner and head towards Southend, or bear left and use the A12? smiley - smiley

Deary me, I can't let it get out where I live.
I could actually go both ways. smiley - winkeye

I live in a bit that made one researcher say 'goodness, that's posh, no wonder you wanted to keep that quiet' when she found out where it was. (I actually live in a common bit of course.)

I think I have an idea where that might be smiley - smiley There are lots of posh bits around there - it's a very nice area to live, and very easy to get out into that lovely Essex countryside, which is one of the few things I really miss smiley - bigeyes

smiley - smiley It's a beautiful area, and so close to London. Although annoyingly not close enough to get a night bus, but never mind. I'll be moving further in one of these days. Although by the time I can afford that, I'd be able to afford cabs, rather than night buses!
