A Conversation for The Lord of the Rings - the Animated Adventure

The new 'Lord of the Rings' movie: influenced by the animated version?

Post 1

Brontë Babe (orig. 'Lizzy Gold' but fancied a change of name)

I did actually see this film when I was a kid - in fact I was so young, I can't remember very much about it. However I can remember enough so that when I was watching the first of the new 'Lord of the Rings' movies last night, it seemed to me that the director must have been influenced by the animated movie. This seemed particularly evident in how he portrayed the 'baddies on horseback' (excuse me fans, I'm not up on the jargon!smiley - blush): the shots of the stamping hooves and the rearing of the horses, for example. Since before making this movie, the director had had a long career in 'cult' film, it seems to me that he would probably have seen the animated version of 'Lord of the Rings' (and heaven knows, perhaps even liked it).

Oberon2001 (Scout)

On the commentary for LOTR, Peter Jackson says that a couple of scens are "homages" to the animated tale. So there you go.

Old Uncle Zarniwoop

Thats one of the really good scenes. Am I the only one who thinks that the new films have suffered from been TOO long?

the first one was a bit long but much better than the second which strayed too far away from the book e.g faramir. quite looking forward to the third film though.
