I seem to recall an old, short, poor article about buying food in France. I remember that when I read it I though "uh huh, this is some of the stuff they should update".
This article is to that article as H2G2 is to "Harmless"!

Hi
I have lived in France for a couple of years now so I have shopped for a fair bit of food. Unfortunately, I'm off for a demi in my local bistro now, and I haven't had time to read the whole article yet.
If you're still here, "I'll be back" (don't worry, I'm not planning to drive a car through the front window and proceed to massacre everyone in the building!).
Just one point that I picked up on initially - you say most milk in supermarkets is UHT. Although I agree that the French are keener than the Brits on UHT, I have never had any difficulty buying pasteurised fresh milk in supermarkets (semi-skimmed, no less!). Don't know why you have had probs with this.

I was in the Loire and in Brittany - I admit that it's easier in Paris and some other large cities. This article was inspired by an entry in PR that has now been sent off to the WW...

I didn't quite realise that this was an edited entry. Sorry about that.
