A Conversation for Cockney Rhyming Slang
Slang word "Arris"

The word "Arris" is short for "Arris Rail" (*not* Harris rail) which is the rail at the top of a bannister rail.
"Arris Rail" rhymes with "Tail", i.e. the back end.
I have no evidence but I beleive it is most likely that "arse" comes from "arris" rather than the other way round.

I always thought Arris came from a double slang
Aristotle = bottle
bottle and glass = arse
