A Conversation for Hearts - the Card Game

Hearts in Atlantis

In the moment I am reading "Hearts in Atlantis" by Steven King. I had my resentments about King, writing "horror" only, which is not at all my preferred genre. Nevertheless, I bought the book, because I was attracted by its cover, displaying Anthony Hopkins in a scene from the motion picture, and by the comments of the critics, suggesting the genre may not be horror this time. BTW, I cannot remember that this movie has been shown in Germanies' theatres - maybe, because "Hearts" is not a popular game in Germany.

Reading the novel (reaching part II of V) I realized that the "Hearts" in Atlantis were not explicitly the organs of life or love, but the thirteen cards of that suit, plus the "bitch", as the Queen of Spades is called very frequently.

As I am reading the novel in the original language, I had some difficulties in following some Hearts-sections of the novel.

Now, this great entry helps me understand a great novel, which I recommend to read, by the way!

Wow -- I had no idea "Hearts in Atlantis" referred to the card game. I'll have to read it now! But I'm glad my first Edited Guide entry (woo hoo!) proved useful to you in reading it.

As for Mr. King, he is certainly not exclusively a "horror" author. His most famous book, "The Stand," is better described as an epic fantasy with some horrific elements. He will always be famous as a "horror" writer, and indeed the balance of his work is such, but he has done much outside that genre.

I agree!

Yesterday, after posting here, I searched the guide and there is a pretty comprehensive entry about Steven King at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A577154 saying what you said.
