A Conversation for Baileys

Only the Irish could dream it up...

A couple of years after it was launched in the 1970s Baileys ran a competition where you had to complete (in 12 words or less) the phrase

"Baileys Irish Cream - only the Irish could dream it up ..."

My brother in law submitted the following entry:

"... becaue only the Irish can keep it down".

He didn't win.

I'm quite fond of Baileys. I've also seen it used in confectionery: some restaurants offer a Baileys cheesecake, or something similar. Sounds rather good.

I was always told that tyhe drink was thought up as a way to help reduce the EEC Alcohol Lake and Milk surpluses. I was told (Obviously erroneously) that the milk is all added in powdered form, and that the spirit is not necessarily Triple distilled Irish. The price is exhorbitant for a sherry type drink.. But my mom loved it.
