A Conversation for Tea

Boiling the tea

Post 121

I have some Irish frinds who have a metal teapot so that they can put it on the gas ring after thay have put boiling water on the leaves. They then boil the tea for a minute or so. Strong or what!

Probably most charity shops - metal tea and coffee pot sets were all the rage in the late 70's early 80's.

Don't forget to get a big one! And make sure that the handle doesn't get too hot! You may need to use an oven mitt or something similar.

By the way Buffy the Vampire Slayer said she wanted a tea cosy, quote "Whatever that is," unquote.

A tea cosy is an insulating device for keepin g the tea hot while you get on with eating sandwiches and choccie biscuits. They were often knitted but nowadays they often come with matching oven mitts and so on. They often have two holes in - one for the handle and one for the spout of the tea pot.

Maybe I should have an entry on this...

You should Vesty you should. If I weren't so busy teaching the youth of today I'd do it myself. Instaed I am just moaning at others until the job gets done.
Have you seen that the front page directs you entries on Food and DRINK.. but they don't cover Tea? Disgraceful!

I saw a metal Tea pot today.
Knitted Tea Cosies are actually the best because they really keep the warm in. With a proper Tea cosy it can be hours before the tea actually goes clod. I have a rubbish Tea Cosy - I can't knit - I have been trying to persuade my Grandmother to sort one out for me to no avail - the Tea goes cold in less than an hour.

That is known as stewing the tea and I for one think it tastes discusting when it has been stewed

I should of added, If you re-heat the tea it is drinkable if you don't let it re-boil and not stewing it. Re-heat it to just before boiling point. This way you can still get an enjoyable cuppa out of pot that has gone cold.

does anyone else leave the dregs in the teapot till next time? i think it's supposed to add flavour but i'm really not sure

I think the interval between matters. If you have just finished one pot and are about to make another it's fine but if you have just dragged the teapot out of the cupboard for the first time in a couple of weeks the green fur is not recommended for drinking!

I am very fussy about my tea pot (and my coffee jug thing too) - they both have to be scrupulosly clean. If they aren't you get a taste of staleness.
Vesty is right though about the importance of time lapsed. For eg. When I make tea in a mug with a tea bag , if I drink it quick and then immediatly make another in the same cup the second is much nicer beacause the mug has been pre warmed.

I don't the dregs from the last pot improves the flavour but a friend of mine reheats the tea in her teapot and it tastes fine. (the secret is to make sure it doesn't boil cause then it tastest stewed, and this is dissgusting)

Yes, I grind my own beans, usually on a Saturday when me ol' mum comes to visit.

Come to that, whenever anyone comes to visit; gives me an excuse to make a superior cup of coffee. I'm drinking instant at the moment 'cos I'm a lazy person.

Actually, I'm 42 weeks late with this reply. Hope the conversation's still going strong.

Anybody find fags go better with coffee than they do with tea?

I enjoy a fag with tea or coffee but I think tea tastes best after eggs & bacon
