Not many H2G2 researchers will have heard of The Museum
of Bad Art (Motto: "art too bad to be ignored"), but
the museum's collection--housed in the basement of the Dedham Community Theater, 580 High St in Dedham Center, just south of Boston--is free and open to the public from 6:30-10:30 PM
Mon-Fri and 1:30-10:30 PM on Sat, Sun, and holidays.
(Someone really ought to write a Guide entry on MOBA smiley - smiley .)

To be frank, I would not encourage anyone to make a trip
to Dedham just to see MOBA, as it is not a large behemoth
like Boston's Museum of Fine Arts (which was also not mentioned
in the guide entry). Mild curiosity about MOBA would merit
a visit to the five virtual galleries that are linked to
MOBA's home page. Sadly, the painting known as "Eileen"
was stolen some time ago. I remember the original with
great affection--the woman depicted in the painting seemed
to have one eye at least an inch higher than the other; what
made the painting vivid was the woman's bright red blouse.
A copy of "Eileen" was painted and put in the place of the
original, but the copy is not nearly as good (or do I mean
"bad"?) as the original. "Lucy in the Field with Flowers"
depicts an elderly woman who seems at first to be skipping
through a field of daisies while a bright yellow sky lurks
on the horizon. On closer examination, you realize that she
is actually hovering, as if sitting in a chair, yet no
chair appears in the painting. (The artist was given two
photos of the woman, one walking in a field, the other
sitting in her kitchen. The artist tried to combine the two.)
"Sunday on the Pot with George" is a brilliantly executed
pointilistic portrait of an elderly obese man who probably
wished the painter would go away and paint something that
people would want toi see!
