If ever your washing is trapped in the machine, because the door wont open, its usually because the water hasnt drained away. Put the outlet pipe into bucket, the water will drain away and you will be able to open the washing machine.

Now, remember this Michael, 'cause if that happens when your in, and I'm out, you'll actually know what to do.
Turn the dial to 'spin' the machine will then (hopefully) spin, the last process before it switches itself off and releases the door lock.
If washing machine floods when I'm out 
turn off stopcock (next to cooker) and then do the above.
