Okay maybe I'm biased because I'm a Kiwi, but I reckon Peter Jackson made a legendary movie trilogy with this one...
The ultimate praise, in my humble opinion, would be the image of JRR Tolkien himself watching the movies. If it were possible I'm sure he would be the proudest man in the world to see his novel - rated the best of the last century - interpreted so beautifully.
Add to that the number of actors who said that these were the best movies they've ever worked on... it's no wonder this trilogy is so many people's favourite.
