A Conversation for Biba

Call me sad if you like. I still have several of the (original) tiny plastic bags the makup came in, and even some of the original make-up (as well as some from the late 70s/early 80s). Those little pots of lip-gloss and eye-shadow are easy to refill.
When I was quite small my mum used to take me to the shop for a treat, we used to dress the part (she made us identical Biba style outfits - with crocheted hats and the beads etc) and we used to have a ball.
This entry really took me back... thanks, I think!

Pheroneous

That "when I was quite small" jarred a bit!

It just struck me that Biba was very prominent in its time, and barely mentioned nowadays. I remember going to tha last day with Mrs P and buying some bits for posterity. (Goodness knows where they are now!) Most other memories are of standing around moping while Mrs P spent an entire saturday afternoon in the changing rooms!

If it "jarred" you, just think what it might have done to me!! I had to actually sit there and remember something more than 27 years ago, when I like to think I'm still 29 smiley - blue

Funny I should have been talking about my Biba make up here, and almost simultaneously my little kids found it! AAArrrggghhh! Still, even my husband recognised the value of those tiny pots and brushes and saved them from the evil clutches of the gruesome twosome. Phew!

my mother has quite a few biba bits n bobs, silly things like a pair of stockings that she never wore, and a plastic bag, all from her one and only trip to the shop in 1970 (or thereabouts). i think she may have a dress too... but i could be wrong. there was a biba exhibition in the laing art gallery in newcastle some years ago, and i remember her walking round doing the 'i had that' 'i had that' 'i couldn't stand that' 'i really wanted that' type thing.

how much d'you think i could get for a pair of original unworn stockings, still in all their wrapping? *starts planning exotic holiday* smiley - winkeye

Pheroneous

This really is not fair, all this 'when I was a child', 'my mum...'. this is not ancient history, you know.

Depends. How much is the bus fare to South Shields these days?
