Moseley has pubs. Moseley has lots of pubs. If you enjoy pub crawls, visit Moseley.
Perhaps I should expand on this a little more. So, get your A-Z out and imagine yourself walking from Kings Heath towards Moseley along the Alcester Road.
Pub Number One. The Village. Drink your beer then roll down the slight hill towards the Cross. A place that tries just a bit too hard. Is that young lady wearing eau de pretension? I think she is! Neck your Belgian brew and attempt to cross the Alcester Road without getting walloped by a Number 50 bus.
Fall through the doors of the Hogshead and choose a decent beer. Something with a bit more character to it than your usual fizzy donkey urine. Watch out for Pete. He's the guy with the Stetson and the beard. Just don't step on his feet as he never wear any shoes, if ever you need a light for a ciggy, or whatever you prefer to smoke, ask Pete.
Onward! Fall out of the Hog and have a brief visit in the Bulls Head. Don't stay too long as you will be overcome by the smell of damp, still not dried out since Noahs flood I think.
Ding! Ding! tickets please! Next port of call will be the Fighting Cocks. Now owned by the 'Goose' chain of pubs so, no smoking at the bar, and no taking a stool to sit at the bar either. Bad idea. Cheap beer, but not enough seats. Silly.
Right. Next boozer. O'Neills. Plenty of them about, same whereever you go. Mock Irish, fairly decent grog if you like it black and white, and the food is tasty too. Pour a pint of Liffey water down your throat and find Woodbridge Road.
Have you still got that A-Z or have you left it behind in the Fighting Cocks? Tough. Saunter along Woodbridge Road until you find the Patrick Kavanagh. Go in and have yourself some beer. It's a pub so it should be serving ale. If you happen to like Garage music, stay in the PK until a big burly bloke asks you to finish off your drinks and leave the premises. Make the most of it.
If you prefer to carry on drinking and walking, head back down the Woodbridge Road and turn right. Keep going until you find the Prince of Wales. As you will see, it's another drinking establishment. If by now your legs are feeling a bit weary, be my guest and rest in the Prince for a while while the rest of us carry on down the road to see a gig at the Jug of Ale.
