most marching bands are upgrading to "quints" (5 drums, instead of 4. the 5th drum being smaller than the others) these-a-days. and also, quads/quints are hardly ever being played with padded mallets anymore. they're usually played with nylon or plastic tipped mallets for more volume and articulation in larger bands. i'm a quint player myself, so i just happened to notice that very small piece of information that wasn't quite, but bordered on inaccurate.
