It's quite obvious that Bagpuss was metaphorical..
Nire Started conversation Jan 25, 2003
Each character representing a certain philosophy and the whole thing representing the nature of life. We wake up (Born) presented with a thing (Life) and then we spend time trying to work it out but are constantly told our theories are wrong by Professor Yaffle (Science) and when we finally think we have it figured out we go to sleep (die). So you see Bagpuss was a very deep show...

why do you people always have to say that things are "metaphorical"?! why cant you have some imagination?! bagpuss is possibly the most amzing thing in the whole infinity of creation! beats life anyway... go on then clever clogs, you tell me what a small soft hamish is a metaphor for, its just harmless fun (and singing mice)

I think you'll find that birth, life, science and death are actually all metaphors for Bagpuss.

it's somthing that Emily brought to bagpuss once it's like a tiny tartan gnome that dances around the scottish countryside making a noise like bagpipes, though professor yaffle later deduced that it was a pin cushion that if you put pins in it looked rather like a porcupine, but that hasn't stopped me from beliving in small soft Hamishes.

Ideological inconsistancy is (i think) somthing to do with things that are made to seem better than they are suddenly not. and i'll let yu know when i work out the rest
