Historic Natchitoches, LA

I no longer reside here, but the town of Natchitoches (Nack-o-tish), has left a profound effect on me. Most well known as the town where the dreadful film Steel Magnolias was filmed, Natchitoches was actually the first settlement in the Louisiana Purchase. Northwestern University is here, and while I never attended class here, I frequented the girls dorms (if you know what I mean). They have a delicious delecacy called a meat pie, and before you go ewwww, go try one at Lasyones'Meat Pie Kitchen, you wont be dissapointed. Front Street is paved with bricks and sort of resembles Bourbon Street, it's so pretty, you won't even notice the road shaking the nuts out of the wheels of your car. And of course, the biggest deal for this town is the annual Christmas Festival which is always held on the first Saturday of December. This small town of about 30,000 people swells up to over 100,000 in one week. Whew! That night, all along the Cane River Lake which faces Front Street, there are millions of Christmas lights all over the place! But of all the things I have mentioned, the best sight to see are the girls of Northwestern U. They literally knock me out!!!!
