Don't you think the stupidity of the american government needs a mention here? If I download the source code of gnugp from europe, print it on a t-shirt, and try to wear that shirt leaving america, I get arrested for exporting munitions. This puts lots of american companies at a major disadvantage, as their competitors can export to america, but the americans can't export back.

Hi xyroth,
this entry is to explain the miracles of public-key encryption, and so I would think Jeremy (the original researcher) didn't include any of the more political points of issue in cryptography. I wouldn't like to change the entry without asking him first, perhaps you would like to go over to Jeremy's personal space and contact him personally.

I thought the US government changed that, in part for the reason you suggest that lots of high tech companies were threatening to move to Europe if the US government kept such a system.
