Seems like this is a bit wider than simply the roman tortoise - surely a name like Roman War Tactics or some such would be more appropriate?

I wonder if any other armies used the tortoise principle...

Saint Taco-Chako (P.S. of mixed metaphors)

In Latin, word form alters depending on use.

'Testudo', 'Testula' or 'Testuduo' may all be forms of a single word-stem "Testud".

However, I think Latin for turtle is Chelys or Chersus.
