Do you happen to know how much fossil fuel;bio-diesel would be able to replace in the UK.And would it make a reasonable contribution to the nations energy usage.
If the figure is not very high, then perhaps alternatives like hydogen would be prefered, as the local pollution would be much lower.

The figures for the U.S. are rather distressing, somewhere between 2 and 5 percent of our total energy expenditure (at best) within 20 years, this including trucking, maritime, and military use as well as home heating fuel needs in the northern states. However, the picture is much brighter in certain other countries where the efficiency of the Diesel Engine has benefited a much larger proportion of the general public at large.

The figures for the U.S. are rather distressing, somewhere between 2 and 5 percent of our total energy expenditure (at best) within 20 years, this including trucking, maritime, and military use as well as home heating fuel needs in the northern states, could potentially be supplied by vegetable-oil based fuels such as bioDiesel. Other nations that have higher crude oil prices {for various reasons} and in which the proportion of diesel vehicles to gas-powered vehicles is much higher will naturally benefit more, both economically and ecologically, by using bioDiesel and other non-traditional sources of fuel.
