In Liz Linahan's book about the folklore of the mining areas of South Yorkshire, Pit Ghosts Padfeet and Poltergeists, she has at least one story of a "good" Padfoot, that led someone home (?when they were lost?)
I have often wondered whether the Padfoot legend and the Black Cats and various Pumas, beasts of Bodmin etc are all manifestations of the same thing.
But it's impossible to contemplate a whole species of unknown animals lurking in the deepest wildest recesses of the English countryside, - isn't it? .....
