This is a black rhino photographed in the Potgietersrus Nature Reserve. There are many differences between black and white Rhinos. You can compare the pictures. Black rhinos have shorter bodies, stand higher off the ground, have shorter heads that they carry higher, and a pointed, prehensile upper lip. They are browsers, and they prefer areas dense with trees and shrubs. Currently black rhinos are more severely threatened than the white, primarily due to the protective measures instituted to conserve white rhinos when it became known that they were endangered. Currently black rhinos are given the same protection, and I hope that they will recover their numbers in time.
