i'm sure i remember hearing about some uni. physics department using lego bases and blocks to set up laser riggs as the lego block were so well toleranced that they knew they would be the right height to some small measurment.

course could just be an urban myth or something

mine all had teeth marks in them from trying to get them apart after building something.

According to the Lego guidebook I have from way back when, Lego is machined to a tolerance of microns. Exactly how many microns I don't quite recall because I've left my book at home.

I could see this being entirely possibly, however.
