Necropsy

A necropsy is kindof an autopsy, but autopsy refers to a human body whereas a necropsy is usually reserved for veterinary science.
They both have the same purpose, however: to assess the condition of the corpse and/or the medical state of its previous owner.

Autopsy is from the latin 'Autopsia' meaning 'seeing with one's own eyes'.
Necropsy is from the Latin prefix 'necro' meaning 'dead' and 'opsia' meaning seeing.
So basically they are the same thing, but with different roots.
