Avon: Does the Liberator?

Wow! What a great entry.

Due to an accident of birth - I'm just a wee kiddie really - I missed out on the original run of Blakes' 7, but became a fan through repeats on BBC2 and UK Gold. I've still only seen about a third of the episodes (mostly because when I manage to catch a UK Gold repeat it's usually one I've seen already on BBC, natch), and the entry has filled in a number of confusing gaps.

Congratulations.

The Prophet.

I forgot to say, I remember the episode when the alien woman thought Avon was her God....he never softened up quite so much before or after, I never understood why he didn't stay with her!smiley - bigeyes

I can't remember the names of the characters, but one episode featured a bloke with curly hair (I had a big crush on him) and a woman (she could have been black?) having been "captured" by aliens who wanted to study how humans reproduce.... quite a bit of snogging as I remember. Or was I dreaming?

And every time I see "Avon" (what's his name again? Paul something?) in another program I really annoy everyone by shouting "look, Avon...!" Great.

I was a big fan of Blake's 7 too. When it was shown originally. I tape recorded the episode when the intergalactic war started from the TV. It's great listening! You can hear tea cups rattling in the background, and my brother, aged 7, saying "NO they CAN'T do that!" and Mum gasping as the alien ships come into view.

But what happened to Orac? As I remember he was left buried in a wood. Not a suitable end for such a hitech fantastically intelligent plastic box of fairlights!

Linus...42, i guess that makes me the answer...

I remember seeing some episodes when i was younger but no where near enough !!! I'm not sure whether we got all 4 series in Australia smiley - sadface but i wish they would show them again.

As for Orac didn't Villa train him to taste wine at one stage ?

I too am too young to remeber it, but I have seen a couple of teh episodes on BBC 2 (who stopped it because it was getting good ratings) Sadly the UK Gold episodes are on too early for me as I liek to sleep in on Sunday

What time is it on UK Gold - I'd like to show my kids some (and re-live my own youth)?

I am looking into this & I will report back!smiley - winkeye
btw..Paul Darrow {Avon} has just been in The Strangerers; a series I barely tolerated but for the fact that HE was appearing in it....

My sister saw Paul Darrow in a stage production of Terry Pratchett's Guards! Guards! I think she said he was playing Vimes.

The time on UK Gold varies, but is typically between 7 and 8 o'clock on a Sunday morning (followed by the Dr Who Omnibus edition; oh yeah!)

Thanks. My kids are usually awake by then, so we can all enjoy it. (and since I'm in Germany it's not really that early).
I thought the Strangerers was good - but mostly because of the way they talked.

I only bothered with the first episode of The Strangerers, but did no one else notice good ol' Roj Blake as the policeman?

Well it's being plugged to death with the Gene Roddenbery connection - I can only hope it isn't like wading through treacle for the first 5,000,000 episodes (like Earth - Final Conflict). What I really wanted, in place of Voyager, was some TNG. But then, I never get what I want. smiley - sadface

"Genesis 2" had the Gene Roddenbury connection - and it was still unimpressive.
Not bad, not good. smiley - smiley

Don't tell me it's going to be loads of musclebound (some sensitive) men and "babes" in sparkly (instead of leather) bikinis floating around space??
Oh well, nothing better to do with Monday evenings, and it makes the ironing go quicker, I suppose smiley - smiley
