The marketing folks for Halflife clearly needed to do better research. 
Seriously, though, companies have made cultural mistakes like this in the past. The Chevrolet Nova is probably the most famous. Nobody in Mexico would buy the car, and the marketing folks were embarrassed to learn that "No va" means "won't go" in Spanish.

Ah, yes. The Ford Ka works ok when the word for 'four-wheeled thing you drive' is Automobile, not Car.

Hmm - Ka doesn't give me hassle - just call it the Kay-Ay... the alternative is to use a short a instead of a long a - but Kayay is almost as fast to say anyway...
At last, a car which doesn't try to pretend it's a heavenly body or an italian...
