Weatherspoons in London
Eristophanes Started conversation Aug 17, 2001
I would have to argue in favour of the White Lion of Mortimer on West Hendon Broadway as being the coolest Weatherspoons' pub in London.
Although the pub also has a no music policy, an accompionment (sp?) is provided by the drunk guy in the corner with the harmonica. Most of the clientele are over the age of 50 and are well versed in topic of the day. Several dog owners also bring their charges with them to enjoy the convival atmosphere created.
The pub itself was probably an old theatre or cinema. The main attrium is a double height area, and is surrounded with several shadowy booths if you wish to drink in private. The first floor is the restaurant serving from the standard Weatherspoons' menu.
If you are an investor, the current Weatherspoons' stock market price is displayed prominently behind the bar.
I have to say walking into this pub is like stepping back in time to the days of sawdust covered floor and pints in shillings and pennies.
Recommended.
For afters, trot 100 yards north up the Broadway and go to the best kebab shop in London. Ask for the special with chilli sauce. This kebab shop will be reviewed in an article that will appear shortly in this guide.
