Can the periods of solar activity (this year) affect the weather? I'm in Britain, and on the nights it was supposed to be possible to see the Aurora Borealis, we couldn't because of heavy cloud. In fact, it's been cloudy and rainy all summer. Are these things connected?

I think there is some evidence for solar eruptions to affect the weather, but not quite so directly as you put it.
