The 'Hot Coffee' debacle

"The Associated Press is reporting that a 85-year old woman has filed a federal lawsuit against Take-Two and Rockstar over the GTA San Andreas Hot Coffee scandal. The action was filed in the Southern District of New York earlier today and seeks to establish class-action status for purchasers of the game. The plaintiff, Florence Cohen, states that bought GTA:SA for her teenage grandson late in 2004 when it was rated "M". Now that Hot Coffee has been revealed, Ms. Cohen is claiming unfair business practices, consumer deception and false advertising."

Sounds like somebody is jumping on the bandwagon. I wonder how many more people will join her.

Australia is pretty censorious; MA15 is the highest available rating for games. ( http://libertus.net/censor/auscensor.html ) With a system like that it's striking enough that San Andreas originally got a rating at all.

Oh, I should add: that one's about the violence! And we thought nobody still cared about _violence_ in GTA:SA...

I never thought I'd welcome a non-violence protest against GTA, but it makes a break from the anti-sex stuff.

They admit that there's no evidence that the games influence people, yet they still protest. How very silly. And when do you kill pregnant women in the game? They're making stuff up (again).

Another GTA case: http://www.livejournal.com/users/gamepolitics/56832.html
http://www.livejournal.com/users/gamepolitics/57624.html

'Two Fayette, Alabama police officers and a police dispatcher were brutally murdered by Devin Moore in 2003. Moore's trial continues today.

'The facts in the case are not in dispute, but the defense has entered an insanity plea, claiming that Moore's state of mind was caused in part by obsessive playing of Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto Vice City.'
