A Conversation for Swords

Knives versus swords

Post 1

A knife is used for slashing and stabbing. A knife is also very short.

A sword is used for slashing (with the tip), stabbing (also with the tip), hacking (more of the blade), pull-cutting, blocking, parrying, and all sorts of things.

What's the difference? A knife has to be hard, but durability isn't such a large factor. A sword has to be durable, or it will shatter when you try to pierce armor. That's why your steel should have extra vanadium, nickel, silicon, etc, and less chromium and carbon. Replacing much of that chromium with boron might help, but then you have a rusty blade. smiley - wah
