This is essentially just a bookmark so that Is Mise Duncan will know where to post when he returns from Ethiopia in a couple of weeks.
Noisy things and draughty too, but once you've had one (or two) nothing else is quite the same.
If you live(as we sometimes do/did) in the wilds of Lincolnshire, insurance companies reckon you're using the vehicle for agricultural purposes and thus charge less than a student would otherwise have to fork out.

Much of the Ethiopia stuff was in LandCruisers (with aircon, shock horror) but there were many S2As and S3s doing stalwart service as bush taxis in the Simiens...often with at least twice their designed passenger load.

8 year gap in postings, a new record?
Our Series 1 needs a new chassis, and a new bulkhead. The chassis has patches on its patches now, and the side posts of the bulkhead are starting to rot, not just the top rail. So, it looks like at the end of the summer it'll be going in to the garage for a major overhaul.
We've been given a rough initial quote of about £3k which doesn't seem too bad really.

£3k is a good price - especially if it is galvenized. I'd imagine that it will be a lot of work to fit though? Pretty much everything is attached to the chassis

That's what I thought, but the guy at the garage seemed to think it would just be a case of lift it off, put it on a new one.
But if they're replacing the bulkhead too, that's a bit of work.
They're a good garage though, only deal with Land Rovers and since we took ours in they've built up the classics side to four or five 1s and half dozen 2As that they look after.

It hasn't.
Several garages have thought about it, and quotes varied and fluctuated up to 25k.
We've since found out that because she's pre 11960 she doesn't need and MOT, so she's back on the road while we find a sympathetic mechanic.

The problem is, there's almost a two year waiting list now for a new chassis.
