A Conversation for Monopoly Board Game

Charles Darrow invented the original version in the height of the Great Depression and based the origianl board on Atlantic city were he used to vacation. He drew the original board on a white table cloth and when money was tight for all around him the illusion of being able to buy up property was a great morale booster.

When he realises he had a sucessful format on his hands he went around trying to sell it to all the major games manufacturers in vain, until Waddington's took it up and it became the sucess it is today.

And Atlantic City is *not* the capital of the US. Just a small error in the entry. smiley - winkeye

Does it piss anyone else off that even the entry on Monopoly is completely Brit-centered? It's Boardwalk, people!

No, but seriously, this is probably an entry that shouldn't discuss the British streets, seeing how it is a classic American board game.

Not Waddingtons, but Parker Bros. (the owners of Trivial Pursuit, too). In the UK, Waddington's have the rights, although they are not a Parker subsidiary,
