Best Place to get a Sandwich

No one has said anything about the best place to get a Chicago deli style sandwich in Lincoln yet, go to M&N Sandwich Shop on 27th and Randolph. Not only a good meal but some good blues on certain nights. If you ask for extra juicy bring your towel. The Italian Beef and Pastrami are the best.

M&N Sandwich shop, at least in my day, was the favoured lunchtime retreat for Lincoln High students and burned-out blues enthusiasts. As far as I recall they would be insulted if you asked for veg fare. The au-jus sandwich, slathered in too much beef stock, done Chicago style (jalepenos and melted Swiss cheese), probably remains one of the finest sandwiches on the face of the Earth. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired, however; and the proprietor, Norm, has an excellent memory for faces and a subtle way of making his regular patrons apologetic if they stop coming by regularly for a while.

Niten, your entry for Lincoln was very nearly the one I would have written - except that there over 100 liquor licences within 2 blocks of 14th & O; you mentioned 2 or 3. Since I just signed on as a Guide researcher today, I'm going to a bar I know where they don't take American Express.

Personally, my favorite place for a sandwich in Lincoln is Bison Witches, a bar in the downtown area (on P Street I think, between 13th and 14th). Did you catch the subliminal message in the name? "Buy Sandwiches."

They make the most amazing veggie sandwich. It's not for vegans, but if you're lacto-ovo like me, you won't mind the mayo, chedder, and provalone melted on the artichoke hearts, avacodos, sprouts, and more.

I usually get their soup and half-sandwich deal. You can get a bread bowl with portabello and grain soup along with your veggie sandwich and a bag of chips (er, 'crisps'). I don't like chips, but the rest is more than a meal (you know how American portions are).

No, I don't work for them, I just love the food.
