A little idea I find very useful - often when dismantling something, you find different sized screws, and on trying to reassemble the item, you don't know which screws came from where.
I draw a rough picture of whatever it is I'm taking apart, and as I remove a screw, I screw it into the picture in the relevant place. This not only prevents me from losing them, but also reminds me of exactly where they came from!
