Computers aren't always hard and/or near-impossible to repair on your own. The front power switch on many new desktop computers works using plastic resistor-things to counteract the force of you pressing down on the button. Being small pieces of plastic, the resistors will break after a few years, making it seem like your computer is failing to boot up. This usually can be remedied by either replacing or taking off the front plastic facade of the computer so you can use the part of the power switch that connects directly to the internal power source.
