I watched the whole seires of this TV program way back in the seventies, and again during the last year on cable.
I really enjoyed it, and always felt relaxed while watching it.
Recently Alan Alda was being interviewed about his roll as actor and later director/producer of the program.

One part of the interview he explained that they had the Local people who were supposed to be Korean were actually wearing those pointed straw hats. The point being that they never wore that style of hat in Korea, but they did in Vietnam. They were actualy using the program to highlight their protest against the war in Vietnam.

Another thing I noticed about that program was that they got rid of the "canned laughter" after the first few episodes. Which made all the difference to the viewer in my opinion.smiley - ok

Actually this is me being a pedant, the canned laughter was still broadcasted with the episodes in the states, In the UK it was broadcasted without. The shows are totally diffent without the canned laughter though and much better without imho.

Urrghhh! Canned Laughter tracks - one of my all time pet hates!

The other day I noticed that the first few series are available on DVD now - I must admit I'm seriously tempted... The only problem is that once you start buying a series like that on DVD you've absolutely _got_ to buy the whole set... Which'll set me back an absolute fortune!

Don't know if it's the same version as you get in the UK but there are 3 dvds, each one with 8 shows on it.

(Cost me 30 Euros - reduced from 60)

Has your version got that wonderful feature where you can turn the 'canned laughter track' off?

Far better without it in my view!
