Well, 6 years on diskless workstations are on the rise.
They are becoming more prevalent in schools, warehouses, call centres.
Why? A number of factors.
Access to the required processing power for such workstations is much lower. This would include the servers required to host the sessions
Access to required storage needed is much cheaper, and continues to get cheaper each year.
Access to required bandwidth is much cheaper.
The software required for both client and server in order to manage all of this is much cheaper (LTSP is free)more reliable and easier to install both small and large setups that can stretch across multiple sites.
On a personal note, I'm going to have a thinclient setup for home. the cat5 lan and server are already there, so just need to find a thinclient laptop!
